Towards an Inevitable Transformation of Home Care in Spain

The Spanish home care model, born in the 1980s and based on large public contracts for indirect management, has allowed for several decades to provide an acceptable response to users’ needs and a livelihood for sector workers. However, it has long been evident that this model does not meet current users’ expectations, their families, society as a whole, or the Administration itself, and therefore it is destined to evolve along the lines followed by other European countries, particularly Germany.
